Hurricane Irene Rerouting - Thoughts?
I'm wondering if I made the right decision or not. I had a flight next Tuesday scheduled to leave Chicago, connect in Newark before embarking on to Stuttgart, Germany for my vacation.
Continental issued a travel exception through Tuesday for flights to/from/through Newark. It looks like the storm should be mostly gone by Tuesday - the main risk being from leftover nasty weather and trying to recover from previous days cancellations/delays.
They allowed me to rebook with very, VERY limited options since I'm on a reward ticket. I was able to secure a ticket a day earlier that goes directly from Chicago to Frankfurt, Germany, then a 2 hour layover, then a flight to Stuttgart from Frankfurt.
At least now I don't have to do anything with the east coast during/after this storm. However - Now I am actually flying over the eastern seaboard while this storm is churning away. Do you think our pilot/plane will have any problems diverting around the storm so that this flight is able to happen on schedule?
Did I make the right decision re-booking under the exception?
It's also kind of silly to wait in Frankfurt for 2 hours for a 40 minute plane ride to Stuttgart...but better than paying out of pocket for a train, I guess?
