I have a confirmed award seat in economy deluxe traveling from hong kong back to vancouver, b.c., I have no status with BR.

I want to change my return portion from hong kong from 11/30 to 12/7. i wonder what happen if the wait-list does not clear? Can I keep my original confirmed seat and wait-list for the later date? This way, if the wait-list does not clear, I still have a confirmed seat on my original date.
