And enough of this forum for me. (edit - quoting deleted text)
If you choose to book a separate ticket for the domestic leg rather than booking a through ticket, then you can expect that when you check in for a domestic QF flight that you will have to collect it at the end of the trip , so for MEL-SYD, that will be Sydney domestic

If you choose to fly on a OW carrier internationally, QF will check the bag through to the onward international flight

Why not just book a through ticket from Melbourne-Bangkok. If the QF and TG flights have been purchased as a single through itinerary, then QF will check the bags through to the TG flight. Also, should there be a problem with the MEL-SYD flight that causes you to miss the onward flight, QF will have to reroute you to your onward destination. On separate tickets, then you are on your own; QF only is responsible for getting you to Sydney

If you decide not to book a through ticket , expect to lug your own bags to International. If you choose to fly a different carrier to avoid this, then that is your choice

That others have taken time to know the policies and know the issues of separate tickets and report factually on the policy and so disagree with what you want the facts to be , does not make them an apologist
