Exactly.

When they ask me if I have a DL I say "yes" and look right at them.

When they ask to see the DL I say "The NEXUS is an acceptable form of identification according to your SOP. If it is a problem, call your supervisor. I have plenty of time. I will step over to the side out of the way and wait."

Then I do.
