This is how I explained it to members of my own family making such a trip.
If you are a toast and coffee for breakfast person who prefers a light lunch and a simple dinner......skip buying the meal plan.
If you are the sort of person who requires 3 square meals a day with desserts and etc, buy the meal plan.
