I am flying to Colombo soon and I was planning to buy a ticket to Delhi with BA and connect there with Sri Lankan Airlines on a different ticket/reservation number.

As I don t want to go through Immigration in Delhi (I have only one entry more in my Indian VISA which I am planning on using in May), I was wondering if I could check in on line so that I get my boarding pass before leaving home.

I know Sri Lankan Airlines have on-line check in but I am not sure what is the story with International Flights? Do you still have to go to the counter and get your passport/visa checked?
