Should you have a laptop, running a cable lock between your carry-on bag and laptop is a good idea.

I have seen this suggestion before and wondered if the laptop can somehow end up pulled by accident out of the bin. I am thinking in the line of the x-ray operating the belt by stopping and restarting or even reversing the belt. How about the way it comes down the belt?
