If that were the case, the TSOs and especially the supervisors should have exhibited the intelligence and courtesy to explain it the traveler instead of claiming it was some supersecret regulation that they could not disclose.

Sadly, both TSOs and supervisors seem to lack both intelligence and courtesy.
