I don't recall any prior discussion of this question, and I tend to read pretty carefully. These Incentive certs are relatively new, at least to this board but I think new altogether.
My guess: You're definitely fine if you only want to connect in LAX. If you want a stopover at LAX, I wouldn't count on it.
Call AA and ask? Be sure to let us all know... You could ask a couple related questions (e.g. stopovers on int'l itineraries) while you're investigating.
