Dgordon, what would be the point if you could buy a walk-up ticket for an advance purchase fare?

Airlines don't charge less for advance purchase to make up for the interest they get on your money. The interest is hardly anything. Airlines charge more for walk-up tickets because people who want to buy walk-up tickets are usually willing to pay more.
