Well, sounds like they did do you a favor by giving you the option to get there earlier (which you didn't have to take). I would tend to agree that they didn't owe you anything if you consented to the re-routing without asking for compensation.
In the future, you may not want to authorize any changes to your ticket unless you know what you will be getting in return.
