This past week, I was visiting Vancouver, BC and Seattle for a bit of a vacation.

I decided to rent a car and drive from SEA to Vancouver since I had free tickets on WN. My eyes nearly fell out of my head when I saw that renting at SEA gave me a discounted rate of around $500 regardless of which car rental company I wanted to use. The problem was all of the surcharges and fees tacked on from renting at the airport.

So, I did a bit of research and found that by going about 10 miles from SEA into Kent, WA, I could save a bundle. I was able to get a full-sized car from Budget for $215 and had the added benefit of being able to drop off the car back at SEA.

So, I grabbed a cab and $25.00 later, I was at a Budget truck and car rental lot. I was third in line, but the other people were renting moving vans. I stepped up to the counter and the gentleman had my reservation and info all out and said that I could choose from a Kia, a Chrysler 100 or a Chevy Impala. I am used to the Impala, so I picked that one and the agent gave me the paperwork and then escorted me out. We both walked around the car and both signed the slip indicating there was no damages or scratches.

I got into the car and it only had 3100 miles on it. It was comfortable and roomy and I loved that it had a AUX jack for my MP3 player.

I was treated very well by the agent and he offered directions and to go over any questions I had about the car.

Looking at the final numbers, if I had rented at SEA, my total would have been $498.15 for a full-sized car. Renting in Kent, WA and returning to SEA was $214.85 + $25.00 for the cab for a total of $239.85, for a savings of over 50%.

The Kent, WA is a great location and I received better service there than at any car rental location I have ever been to.
