I live on the Eastside, I always take Lake Drive, across the Hoan Bridge to 794, off at Layton and then Left on Howell. It is a great and beautiful drive early in the morning along the lake with the Sun coming up. And the time is the same. Take this route and you will never go the freeway again.

+1. When I lived downtown, the Lake Parkway was by far the best route. It is also the best view when bringing visitors from the airport to downtown. It showcases the city well for first time visitors.
