I'm not exactly sure why they're not giving any information - my best guess is that since the 777 modification was pushed back for several months and they are taking their time with the first one to make sure it's perfect, they don't want to set a specific date for the roll-out. I have a feeling that once the first model is finished United will promote it heavily to lure business travelers away from other airlines in the int'l market.
One out of 40-something converted isn't going to lure anyone, that's not enough to do even one international route.
Haven recently flown NRT-SIN-NRT in an old 777 in F, I can confirm that at least 2 of the old config 777's are getting pretty darn ratty with, on both flights, selected non-functional passenger amenities.
