First of all, welcome to Flyertalk.
I think the answer, as with a lot of answers to questions on Flyertalk, is: it depends.
I've had some great Dollar experiences (LAS, YUL, DTW to name a few) and some awful ones (ORD, SAN, LAX to name a few). I've had the same with Alamo. I will say that when Dollar Express is recognized as it had been at a few airports it's wonderful, but some places do not care about it.
