I had the exact same experience this past week while staying at the Downtown Atlanta Sheraton. I asked about a possible suite upgrade when checking in. I didn't get a "no suites available" or "we don't have suites" answer. Instead, I got the very same "we have accommodated you with a club floor room" answer with the same blank stare.
