That's way too dogmatic. I'm talking average redemption values, not optimal values. (Also, you have to take into account the non-earning of points on the room when you use award stays.)

Anyhow, I believe in burning points/miles every year, not hoarding them while waiting for optimal redemption opportunities. If you hoard them too long, they just decline in value!
