If you always travel together, then you will both be better off with you as a platinum IMO. You will have a better chance of both being upgraded on domestic flights and earn more total miles. Also, if you ever travel internationally in economy, you can both use the lounges. The only downside that I can see is that you will earn half as many 500 mile upgrade stickers as you would if you both had elite status.
