Thing is, as soon as you go via SIN from SEL/TYO to Europe, it automatically adds almost 2x to the miles. Which I have done twice already. Going SIN-DXB-Europe vs. SIN-Europe directly adds almost no miles in terms of distance travelled.
Personally I think he would probably get away with NRT-SIN-DXB // DXB-Europe-CPH. It's really not that outrageous. Once the itinerary starts exceeding 4 segments, that's probably when they start getting difficult about it.
