I agree and it sounds bizarre ... however, having spoken to several agents at AI, they all maintain I need to have a booking generated by LH and then use that PNR. Apparently, they cannot book an LH award. Finally, I don't necessarily think the last bit is true. For example, sometimes you can call them and book in H class for UAL or US partner redemption.

So what to next?
