Yes, a couple of dozen trips to Europe have made me well aware of that requirement and, no, I have no desire to see that type of identification requirement become any more common in the U.S. than it already is. I remain ideologically tilting-at-windmills opposed to a national ID card even though the SSN provides any and all with more and more of a
de facto ID.
Scanning my passport to buy water at a newstand in MUC was a first for me, however.
