I think that's the convenient corporate explanation, but I don't think that's the whole story. The SCMP article said Boeing would use the strike to "negotiate a delay with Boeing", and that to "negotiate a plan" alone would take 60-90 days (I think the strike was 57 days), and insinuating that there likely would be another delay **after** this "negotiate a plan for delays" period. I can't find it, but the Bloomberg article was even more blunt, I think using the word "suspending deliveries".

The Boeing strike is I think more a good excuse for airlines to cover up the need to push back deliveries in a very uncertain future - and currently declining - economic environment. I think there's a good chance we'll see Cathay cutting back 777 deliveries far greater than the magnitude of the 57 day strike, especially taking a look at some of their equipment and capacity changes (the general theme seems to be smaller and less) going forward.
