Any recent information on whether we are required to deplane during the layover in HKG on SQ1 or SQ2 (from SFO to SIN and back) would be most appreciated. If we must deplane:
1. Can you leave carryon luggage aboard and is it prudent to do so?
2. Can you just wait in the gate area?
3. Do you have to go through security checks in the HKG airport before getting back aboard?

You are required to deplane, take all your hand-carry with you, pass through an intermediate (i.e. transit) security check, then proceed to the departure level (upstairs). From that point, you can do as you like -- shop, visit a lounge if you have rights, or return to the gate and loiter.
