At one time a few years ago almost everyone I knew was homeless due to powers beyond their control! (Hint: my location.) Nonetheless, there is a huge difference between doing something that is genuinely kind and helpful -- and doing something that is not particularly helpful in any real sense but is more about "look at me, I'm so wonderful."
A wiser man than I pointed out that the poor will be with us always. He knew the value of occasionally enjoying a good foot massage, rather than giving the last dime to the poor, instead.

To Peachfront: I have a friend that is homeless due to powers way beyond his control, I don't think any of us should take a first class upgrade for granted or feel we've earned it. You should just feel lucky you were given the talents to work and in the end earn the upgrade. At times the first class meal served on that flight could be the difference between life or death to my friend, and others that face hardship due to talents that they don't naturally have.
