“Would You Support Airlines Creating Child-Free Flights?”

There’s an interesting debate going on on Reddit right now: Would you support airlines creating child-free flights? Why or why not? So we were wondering, what does FlyerTalk think?

Are child-free flights a good idea? Or is this a slippery slope that’s bad for families?

You can check out the entire discussion on this Reddit thread, but let us know your opinion in the comments section.

the issue I have is not with children themselves, its with the parents who believe the airplane is just a large playpen and allow their child(ren) to basically do whatever they want and expect the flight attendants to play nanny. my answer, yes, I support child-free sections on planes, and banning children under 12 from premium cabins.

I'm flying around 30-40 segments each year, most of it >5000 miles in economy our premium economy. About once a year I can hear an infant cry for a couple of minutes.. Why would I pay extra for a non issue? Apart from that: I find the mere idea of banning children from flights entirely anti social. Children are the backbone of our society.

I can only see this happening with an all F/J cabin with no economy seating, premium food & beverages, and on heavy business routes like NYC- LAX/SFO + maybe even lounges with showers? although I don''t think it would be profitable.

That would never work. In case of IRROPS, is the airline going to make them wait half a day for a child friendly flight?

Force them to sit in the back. That's where I usually sit with my kids regardless. 5 rows away and you barely hear them, if at all with any headphones on. If you don't have status or cant afford to sit towards the front, suck it up. You probably don't fly that much or bought a super bargain fare anyway. I've flown 300k miles pre-kids and never had any issues with whiny babies that couldn't be solved with headphones. Adults though? I'd pay for a kid free airline if they also allowed you to use any open restroom, served edible food, good drinks, comfy seats, a reasonable dress code, some simple rules like no taking your shoes off or hanging underwear from the vent. Something that doesn't resemble the cattle drive of today. If you're gonna go no kid, keep going. I wouldn't pay more money without getting rid of some of the adult BS too.
