Worst Passenger of the Week: Sight but No Vision

Every Friday, FlyerTalk looks back at the week’s most charming individuals. While there are always plenty of contenders for our Worst Passenger of the Week award, only one lucky flyer can take home the glory. Here are this week’s winners.

Third Place – Sweet Dreams, Butt Head

Frustrations over mass delays attributed to a French air traffic control strike reached a boiling point this week. A passenger who allegedly head-butted a flight attendant on a Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) to Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI)-bound EasyJet flight was eventually choked nearly unconscious by security forces who arrived on the scene moments later.

The flight had already been delayed by nearly two hours by the time bad tempers resulted in violence and mayhem. Although the mass delays at the airport were certainly a contributing factor, the trouble started in earnest when a crew member reportedly called security to remove a group of misbehaving passengers. One member of the entourage apparently objected to that decision and head-butted a flight attendant as a rebuttal point of sorts.

Security officers, who were already on their way, put an unceremonious end to the debate in a matter of seconds. Cellphone footage of the resulting struggle appears to show an officer putting the aggressive passenger in a chokehold. The disgruntled flyer drops limply to the cabin floor a short time later.

“EasyJet is aware of this disruptive passenger incident onboard prior to take off which was extremely distressing for the crew and passengers onboard,” the airline told reporters in a statement that made absolutely no mention of the hundreds of delayed and canceled flights that led up to the air rage incident. “The police were called to assist the crew in dealing with the incident and arrested the passenger. We will not tolerate threatening or violent behavior towards our crew and will be pushing for prosecution. We are doing all possible to support the crew members who were subject to this unacceptable behavior. The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is EasyJet’s highest priority.”

The Runner-up – Seriously, DEN is Great Airport … For Me To Poop On!

A good doggy and a very bad pet owner became famous overnight thanks to cellphone cameras and some remarkably inconsiderate airport behavior. The citizen journalist who captured footage of the apparently unconcerned dog owner ignoring both her animal companion and the pile of poop left behind in its wake, was rewarded with only a rude gesture from the inconsiderate passenger. While the rude leash-holder was eager to tell off her fellow passenger, she was decidedly less eager to clean up the dog poop at her feet.

The video has since gone viral on YouTube and now it seems that the unpleasant passenger might soon get her own just deserts. It is almost as if the entire world wide web is focused on identifying the negligent pet parent. So far, internet investigators have already deduced that the as-yet-unidentified woman had just arrived at Denver International Airport (DEN) on a flight from Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).

Making the careless flyer’s crimes against air travel even more horrendous is the fact that DEN has nicer relief facilities for pets than it does for humans. Seriously, check out the facilities here. Each and every terminal at the airport has a conveniently located pet relief area – though not quite as convenient as just letting your dog poop on the floor and walking away.

Given social media’s unique (but not always accurate) ability to crowdsource solutions to mysteries such as the case of “The Terminal Pooper,” there is little doubt that this culprit will soon face internet justice and will finally have her nose rubbed in her misdeeds – figuratively, of course.

The Winner – “Bitches Ain’t S**t”

Hellen Keller once said, “The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” Rapper Ty Dolla $ign, on the other hand, famously wrote, “B****es ain’t s**t, b****es, b****es ain’t s**t.” Both of these differing maxims came into play on an Air Canada flight this week.

Mr. Dolla $ign reportedly objected to a blind passenger’s seeing eye dog on his flight from Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) to Ottawa/Macdonald–Cartier International Airport (YOW). The rapper famous for lyrics including, “these days gotta keep my phone on airplane mode to dodge these hoes” and “b**ch, I’m from the westside,” forgot to pack Benadryl in his carry-on bag. So, the entertainer did the next best thing and demanded that a woman and her guide dog be removed from the aircraft.

The world’s most patient flight attendant explained to Dolla $ign (aka Tyrone William Griffin Jr.) why kicking a blind passenger off the flight was not an acceptable solution to the problem. Fortunately, a fellow passenger managed to capture footage of the exchange.

“If you are traveling and you have restrictions, like an allergy, then you go to the medi-desk,” the cabin crew member explained with a remarkably calming tone. “There’s an empty row in the back, but unfortunately, the woman was pre-booked … So, she has the priority to keep her seat, sir. If you would like to move to the back row …”

At this point, the rap artist decided that he would prefer to keep his seat in the front of the plane and attempt to power through the itchy eyes and runny nose, but the flight attendant wasn’t done killing the clueless performer with kindness (and busting a rhyme of his own).

“It’s a short flight,” he offered helpfully. “If you feel uncomfortable during the flight, I can always move you to the back row – just let one of us know.
