United has become the very first U.S.-based carrier to give its customers the option to select non-binary gender preferences across all of its booking channels. Thanks to this latest enhancement, passengers are now able to identify themselves as M(male), F(female), U(undisclosed) or X(unspecified).

United Airlines has revealed that it will now allow its passengers to select non-binary gender preferences across all of its booking channels.

As part of this enhancement, passengers can identify themselves as “Mx.” throughout the booking process as well as in their MileagePlus profiles. According to a statement made by the airline, passengers can now select from M(male), F(female), U(undisclosed) or X(unspecified) gender designations, in-line with those listed on their personal identification.

The carrier has confirmed that it is the first airline in the United States to offer this array of non-binary designations.

Speaking of these options, Toby Enqvist, United’s chief customer officer, said, “United is determined to lead the industry in LGBT inclusivity, and we are so proud to be the first U.S. airline to offer these inclusive booking options for our customers. United is excited to share with our customers, whether they identify along the binary of male or female or not, that we are taking the steps to exhibit our care for them while also providing additional employee training to make us even more welcoming for all customers and employees.”

This refinement to the airline’s booking options, the carrier explained, was the result of United’s work with two separate bodies, the Human Rights Campaign and The Trevor Project, both of which advocate for and champion the rights of the LGBTQ community.

“These initiatives include teaching employees about preferred pronouns and the persistence of gender norms, LGBT competency in the workplace and other steps to make United an inclusive space for both customers and employees,” explained the carrier.

If you worried more about service and less about virtue-signalling and political correctness, it would be nice.

I wish United would focus on their airline service than political BS

Couldn’t you always just leave that field blank? Making this out to be a human rights issue just sounds like virtue signaling, TBH.

This going to be fun to watch! Out here in the 'third world' where MX doesn't exist. Just how long before an MX'er is rejected from boarding and sues United?
