US Tariffs Target Aircraft Manufacturer Airbus

On Friday, the US announced that it will levy $7.5 billion in tariffs on certain goods from the European Union. Among those hit by the tariffs is aircraft manufacturer Airbus, which has sites in Germany, France, Spain, and Britain. French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire called the action “hostile”.

On Friday, the United States levied $7.5 billion worth of tariffs on a wide variety of European Union (EU) goods and products. As AFP reports, aircraft manufacturer Airbus is among those impacted by this action.

According to the outlet, the cost of these goods – which are currently produced by the company at sites in France, Germany, Britain, and Spain – will now cost ten percent more upon importation to the United States. As the news agency alludes, this current tariff is another escalation in the 15-year spat between Airbus and Boeing.

America’s tariff has the backing of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and has come into force as the US enters into a trade war with China.

French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire was critical in his assessment of the tariffs. Speaking to members of the press from the annual meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, he said, “This is a hostile act between allies.”

“With a slowing global economy, it would be irresponsible to add tariffs to tariffs and a US-European trade war to the existing US-China trade war. We don’t want to negotiate with a gun (to) our head. Because when you have a gun to your head, you don’t have any other choice but to retaliate,” he added.

These things don't hurt politicians or big corporations, they hurt you and me who have to find more money to pay for things we love. And if we decide to stop buying, the small producers are the ones who get hit. Remind me again who voted for this clown in the White House.
