United Slashes Food and Beverage Offerings
United Airlines has turned the tables on food enhancements for their flights, and is now scaling back meals and offerings on all trips flying four hours or less – which is the majority of the domestic flights in the United States, except for coast-to-coast routes.
Flyers, get ready for some possibly unwelcome changes to the food and beverage service on United Airlines flights. The company is now scaling back offerings and changing up meal components after it announced that the service would be “streamlined” last week.
“With all of our food offerings, we monitor customer feedback and what they would prefer and adjust accordingly,” a United spokesperson told The Business Journals.
That means that some routes will no longer see a hot breakfast option. Instead, passengers will get a fruit plate and a muffin. Full lunches are changing as well, scaling down to just wraps and a piece of chocolate. And the ice cream passengers are used to getting will change also, but for the better – it’ll begin to include toppings. For the beverage service, Sprite Zero will no longer be offered, nor will tomato juice, which will be replaced by more Bloody Mary mix. Alcohol cutbacks include Jim Beam, Courvoisier, and Amaretto, none of which are available anymore.
The tomato juice loss is a bit of a touchy subject for both flight attendants and passengers.
“We are once again in full apology mode now onboard our flights, although the issue (of the disappearing tomato juice) is a more minor one compared to the forced removal of customers or suffocating dogs,” an anonymous flight attendant told the Denver Business Journal.
The changes will affect nearly every domestic flight in the country, aside from coast-to-coast ones that are more than four hours long.

WHY DON'T THEY JUST STOP SERVING ANY FOOD OR DRINKS ALTOGETHER!
I agree this is a BS answer. It is simply United believing that it can get away with service reduction so as to save $$$. And the only reason why they increase service, including food, internationally in business is because there they face competition from classy airlines that won't skimp on service. So they can't get away with it. Sadly, in the US, we have a run for the bottom. The oligopoly in charge all dream of becoming Spirit. Sad that the company that proud itself for so long (that is, CO, with their "warm meal" of lore) has decided to follow the parade.
And meanwhile the most expensive carrier (at least in my area) is United...
Amen
Anyone sick of the bullshit response that the customer ask for less food. The only person who believes this is the bean counters at United. Time to come up with a new bullshit response.
