Uber Unveils Ride Pass for Consistently Low Prices

Your Next Uber Ride Could Be 5x More Expensive

For regular users frustrated by the fluctuating price of their journeys, Uber has introduced Ride Pass, a subscription service intended to ensure regular low prices for customers in five different U.S. cities. For regular users frustrated by the fluctuating prices of their journeys, Uber has unveiled Ride Pass, a subscription service that is intended to ensure consistently low prices for customers in five U.S. cities.

In a blog post earlier this week, product manager Dan Bilen explained the impetus behind the company’s new product.

“One thing we hear a lot from riders is that changes in price—however small—can make it tough to plan their day with Uber. The daily commute is a classic example, and it goes something like this: you pay one low price for the ride to work, only to find the ride back home is a different story. You’re frustrated, and from that moment on you might think twice about leaving the car at home,” Bilen wrote.

He explained that Ride Pass is, “…a new way for riders to lock in consistent, low prices on any ride they take, anywhere in a city, anytime of day for a small monthly fee that starts at just $14.99. Daily commute or night on the town, traffic or open roads: Ride Pass is designed to take the guesswork out of riding so you can confidently plan your day with Uber without any unwelcome surprises.”

CNET reports that, as of Tuesday, Ride Pass has been rolled out to riders in LA, Denver, Austin, Miami and Orlando. LA users, however, should note that a monthly Ride Pass subscription is available to riders in this city at a cost of $24.99 per month.

Further touting the service, Bilen wrote that, “Leaving the car at home shouldn’t take a leap of faith. Whether it’s a daily commute or a night on the town, we want riders to have the confidence to reliably plan their day with Uber. Ride Pass is another step we’re taking to make Uber your go-to app whenever you need to get from A to B.”
