In Brief: U.S. Airlines Come Down on ‘Abuse’ of Employee Perks

U.S. airlines are imposing limits and coming down on employee perks that are allegedly being abused. According to The Wall Street Journal, buddy passes and other perks available to current and retired employees, as well as to their immediate families, have been misused in ways that cost carriers money and, in some circumstances, lend to criminal activity. United Airlines and Delta Air Lines employees were warned last year that they could face termination over the misuse of their perks. The issue of perk abuse was brought into the spotlight last month after a Delta baggage handler used buddy passes to smuggle guns onto flights from Atlanta to New York.
