TSA Made 70,000 AA Pax Miss Flights in 2016
Over 70,000 American Airlines customers were forced to miss their flights this year due to long and arduous airport screening processes, an American Airlines executive informed a congressional subcommittee on Thursday. The combination of a shortage of security staff and swelling numbers of air passengers has been blamed for long wait times at domestic airports in 2016, and while the Transportation Security Administration has hired more full-time officers to deal with the surge in travelers, it still lacks sufficient employees to deal with peak travel times this summer, according to Administrator Peter Neffenger. Kerry Philipovitch, Senior Vice President for Customer Experience at American Airlines, has encouraged TSA to create a senior internal role centered on customer concerns.
