The New Air Force One Looks Very Familiar

The New Air Force One Looks Very Familiar
Jennifer Billock

Trump recently revealed his plans for the new version of Air Force One with a completely new patriotic paint scheme, which some say bears a striking resemblance to a British Airways plane of yesteryear. Say goodbye to baby blue and white and hello to red, white, and navy on the exterior of the plane.

Trump recently unveiled his plans for a newly designed Air Force One that dispatches with the time-honored baby blue and white color scheme. The new one will be red, white, and navy, with a decidedly more patriotic slant to the design.

Only one problem, though: a lot of people on social media are saying the plane is a rip-off of a 1980s British Airways aircraft design, The Sun reports.

Twitter user dannyctkemp called it out, tweeting, “Great to see Trump going for the retro 80s-90s British Airways livery for Air Force One.”

User Desert09 repeated the sentiment, tweeting, “It looks a little like a British Airways plane. Who asked trump to change the color of AF1 anyway? That would be…no one.”

The planes in use currently have been flying for 30 years. There are three floors, including doctors’ offices, fully-stocked kitchens that can feed about 100 people at once, and built with armored windows.

The new designs will have similar features, but also some secret enhancements.

“There are a couple of secrets,” Trump said, reported by The Sun. “You know what, there are a couple of secrets I don’t think we’re supposed to be talking about.”

So why does the picture show the old, not the new, livery?

Even more to the point, a news piece observed that the design is the same as the trump airplane only inverted!

    Two points.

First, the proposed Air Force One livery looks less like a BA livery and more like TWA’s last livery before the bankruptcy that led to the purchase by American.

Second, while the Raymond Loewy livery, with colors picked by Jack and Jackie Kennedy, has held up well, it is beginning to look dated. American’s “scissor eagle” livery held up well, but it certainly was due for replacement. (Whether the new livery is good or bad is a separate issue.)

While I thought the livery looked great on the 707, it didn’t look quite right on the 747.

Here is hoping that Cadet Bone Spurs is out of office by 2021 and a real POTUS will reverse the decision.

…I’m surprised it doesn’t have “Trump” emblazoned on it in gold letters.

Definitely looks a lot more like the final TWA livery and really nothing like BA Landor at all other than similar blue on the belly. Must be a very slow news day.

With that said, I hate the flag on the tail. Just looks boring. It would be nice to see them expand it somehow to fill the tail, almost like AA’s but not nearly as stylized.

He messed up with his crayons again…the Russian flag has red on the bottom and blue in the middle. Or maybe he is representing Nazi-era Bohemia??

Luckily, the paint scheme is the last thing to be applied and the easiest to change, especially before delivery.

There’s only so many ways to paint a plane. It’s always going to look like someone else’s design.

Talk about livery and all the maniac Trump bashers show up. Not that they contribute anything to the discussion
