Travel to Brazil Just Got A Little Easier

Starting in 2018, traveling to Brazil is going to be a little bit easier. That’s because Brazil is making visa applications available to U.S. citizens online!

The visa fee will still be the same, steep $160 for a tourist visa that lasts 10 years, but at least you won’t have the additional costs associated with mailing your passport into the Brazilian Consulate to get your visa.

As part of the same change, Brazil is also making online visa applications available to Australian and Canadian citizens. Australians can begin applying for visas online in December 2017, but like Americans, Canadians will need to wait until January 2018.

This is a great change for those of you that have upcoming trips planned to Brazil! It will make getting your visa cost less in both time and money.

I went to Brazil in 2016 so I have a visa that is good until 2026, but it will be great to have the option to apply online next time I need a visa for Brazil!

Are you excited about being able to get your Brazilian visa online?

$160 may be steep, but it is simply an effect of Brazil's reciprocity law - whatever the US charges Brazilians, Brazil will charge the US. As for convenience, the line at the US Embassy in Sao Paulo for Brazilians to get US tourist visas is hours long at 8am each day! I'd pay to mail it in any day!!!
