“Too Revealing”: Budget Malaysian Carriers Called-Out over Uniforms

AirAsia, Firefly and Malindo Air have been singled-out by politicians for their overly sexy look.

A handful of Malaysian low-cost carriers have been criticized by the country’s lawmakers for dressing their female members of cabin crew in uniforms that are “too revealing”, the New Straits Times reports. AirAsia, Firefly and Malindo Air have all been singled-out by politicians who feel that the close-fitting uniforms provided by these airlines are not in keeping with the modest dress of Islam, the official religion of Malaysia.

Commenting specifically on the attire provided by Firefly and AirAsia, Senator Abdullah Mat Yasim, who is the division head of the nation’s Umno party, was quoted by the outlet as saying that these tight uniforms have the potential to “arouse passengers.”

During a debate in the Malaysian parliament on Monday, Abdullah entreated the nation’s aviation authorities to examine the matter further, adding, “The Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) must really look into this.” Out of the three carriers, Abdullah was also quoted as saying that only the uniforms of Malindo Air passed muster. These have been deemed as “acceptable” in terms of their modesty by Abdullah.

His sentiments were shared by Senator Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, who joked, “My wife is worried whenever I fly alone on Malindo or AirAsia. This is a real hassle for me.”

Another politician, Abdul Halim Abd Samad, the deputy president of the Dewan Negara or upper house of Malaysia’s parliament, welcomed the discussion, saying, “This is a good topic that many people can relate to as they always take flights.”

The uniforms of female cabin crew have been a hot topic in the nation as of late; only last week, a Malaysian politician voiced his view that uniforms should be Syariah-compliant, in-line with Islamic Sharia law as practiced in Malaysia.

They would really have a problem with the original Southwest Airlines uniforms, these are nothing.

does seem like if you blog an article of uniform, you might attach a picture of the said uniforms, rather than a picture of an airpline. :o) Air Asia uniforms here: http://www.businessinsider.com/malaysian-mps-worried-airasias-flight-attendant-uniforms-are-too-sexy-2017-12
