This Once-Abandoned Airport Terminal Is Now A Gorgeous Hotel

You can officially book a room at New York’s Trans World Airlines (TWA) Hotel at JFK. This highly anticipated hotel began accepting reservations on Feb. 14. However, rooms won’t be available until their soft opening for guests on May 15. An official grand opening will take place in the fall. How much will spending a night in the hotel cost you? Room rates are starting at $249 per night. You can only make reservations directly from the hotel’s website for now.

The TWA Hotel at JFK has 512 rooms for guests to choose from. The distinguishing feature of the new hotel is a set of twin six-story towers that flank the previous structure’s terminal. That terminal is actually in the process of being transformed into a record-breaking lobby that will be 200,000 square feet in size when it is completed. The interior of the new TWA property will feature six full restaurants and eight bars. A heavy aviation theme is present throughout the hotel. In fact, one of the cocktail lounges in the new hotel will actually contain a refurbished Lockheed aircraft from the TWA fleet of the 1950s and 1960s.

It’s unclear just what guests can expect when they book rooms during the soft-launch period that will last from May until the fall. We don’t yet know if all of the hotel’s restaurants, bars and themed areas will be up and running by May. Of course, that won’t stop some people from eagerly booking rooms. This hotel has been generating buzz ever since its development was announced. The new hotel’s futuristic look has many minds curious about what it will offer to guests.

In addition, the heavy throwbacks to the heyday of TWA are also very appealing to lovers of aviation history and general nostalgia. Touches like vintage rotary phones, walnut trim, Hollywood-style vanities, Knoll furniture and in-room bars give each room a very eclectic feel.

The hotel also offers views of the runways at John F. Kennedy International Airport. That means that you can watch planes departing from one of the busiest airports in the world. Noise-canceling floor-to-ceiling windows promise to keep noise out. This hotel can be a fun option if you’re into hype and nostalgia. However, it’s probably better to wait until after the official grand opening if you don’t want to be disappointed.

If you're really concerned about the cameras a little tape should do the trick.
