This Jet-Setting Chihuahua Narrowly Escaped Death and Now Travels the World

Meet Jonathan Warren. Once a caged shelter dog, Jonathan Warren narrowly escaped euthanization at a kill shelter in Georgia.

The jet-setting chihuahua was supposed to be put down but as luck would have it, he was transported on a “rescue wagon” from Georgia to another shelter in Connecticut. Essentially, a “rescue wagon” transports animals from communities with high pet populations and at risk of being put down to somewhere else in the country where chances of adoption are better.

Amanda Klecker and her husband brought a malnourished Jonathan home and nursed him back to health. Once he regained his health, they gradually introduced the world to Jonathan.

“Travelling with your whole family can be such a fun and rewarding experience so we encourage people to also take their dogs with them, as long as both you and your dog are enjoying themselves and it’s safe,” Klecker told Lonely Planet. “We only fly with Jonathan in cabin with us and would never put him in cargo.”

From Bourbon Street to the Eiffel Tower,  Jonathan has visited eight countries thus far and traveled around the United States.
