This Airline Is Officially Banned From Europe
Jesse Tabit

Following a series of reported safety lapses, Iraqi Airways has been banned from the EU and a number of European nations. In addition to the safety issues, the Iraqi flag carrier also failed to deliver proper documentation to the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

Although Iraqi Airways was notified of the ban on July 16, it wasn’t made public until this past weekend, when the Swedish Transport Agency banned the airline from Swedish airspace.

The decision to ban Iraqi Airways from European airspace came after the airline applied for a Third Country Operator authorization from EASA. According to EASA executive director Patrick Ky, the agency “received credible and specific safety reports containing examples of alleged failures to comply with applicable international (ICAO) safety standards by Iraqi Airways and the Iraqi CAA.”
