This Airline Flew 34 Passengers to the Wrong City!

Whoops!

On Monday, airline Nextjet Airlines made a headline-making mistake when they put 34 passengers on the wrong plane — and flew them 600 miles from their intended destination.

Bad weather in Sweden caused the passengers’ initial flight from Sundsvall to Gothenburg to be canceled. Only the airline never told the affected passengers.

So when a plane rolled up to their gate — actually one headed to the Swedish city of Lulea, 600 miles from Gothenburg — the passengers boarded, unaware that they were headed in the wrong direction.

The passengers were put up in a hotel and flown to Gothenburg the next day. But they seem to have taken it all in stride.

“I just laughed,” said a passenger. “What can you do?”

Airport officials weren’t quite as easygoing. Said the Sundsvall airport operations manager, “We had not learned anything about this before the plane lifted. Something has gone wrong when you failed to provide airport information. During my 16 years, I’ve never [seen] like something like that.”
