Even though flyers are grounded due to the COVID-19 pandemic, an airfare tracker wants to give one lucky traveler $500 per year for five years, to put towards future itineraries starting in 2021. Scott’s Cheap Flights is giving away the travel stipend to celebrate their five-year anniversary.

Although travel may not look like it once did, airfare tracking website Scott’s Cheap Flights wants to help flyers take to the skies again when the world re-opens to travel. To celebrate their fifth anniversary, the company announced a contest where travelers can enter to win $2,500 over five years towards future flights around the world.

Five Years of Free Flights Offers $500 Per Year Towards Travel

To encourage travelers to once again board airplanes when they are ready, the company is offering one flyer $500 per year starting in 2021, to put towards the price of airfare. The stipend can be used on any flight to any part of the world.

“For many people, their favorite travel memories are big. Skiing in New Zealand, a fancy dinner in Italy, or a trek to Machu Picchu,” Scott Keyes, founder of Scott’s Cheap Flights, said in a press release. “I’ve always found my fondest travel memories to be the small encounters. Whether that be sharing shots of boxed vodka in Ukraine or getting lapped on a hike in Taiwan by septuagenarians. To me, that’s a big part of the joy of travel: those unexpected moments that, years later, can still generate joy.”

To enter, travelers need to visit the contest website, and share a travel story accompanied by either a video or photos. Of all the entries, one will win the grand prize of $500 per year.

Although the entry calls for stories, the winner will be selected from a random drawing of all the qualifying entries. If you don’t want to share a travel story, you can also enter via mail, as outlined by the terms and conditions.

Entries will be accepted through Monday, August 17, 2020. A winner will be selected on the next day.

$500 Yearly Prize Reflects Average User Savings

Why give away $500 per year, for five years? In addition to celebrating the five-year anniversary of the company, Scott’s Cheap Flights claims to save users an average of $550 per ticket. The e-mail fare alert service says they use software and “human flight experts” to find the best airfare combinations.

In addition, FlyerTalkers are also quick to share some of the best fares they find online. The Premium Fare Deal forum offers quick deals for flyers looking to travel in premium cabins around the world for a low price.

the best fares never ever make it online. Tour operators buy up all the cheap seats they can, so the best fares don't even appear online. eg. SYD/LAX direct return in early Jan 2020, to buy right now, with less competition (No Virgin, Delta or American) - through a tour operator AU$800. Same flights online AU$1500. The only catch is the AU$800 fares are set dates, meaning if you must go a day earlier or day later than the seats they have at AU$800, you'll be paying $1500+.
