The 10 WORST Hotel Guests

anxiety management in service industry

Expedia has released results of a new survey ranking the most annoying hotel guest habits.

In a recent survey of more than 1,000 Americans, Expedia asked travelers what the most annoying habits of other guests in their hotels are. Not surprisingly, hotel guests find inattentive parents who let their kids run wild to be the biggest offender. Other groups on the list include late-night partiers, hallway rabble-rousers, and hot tub couples.

“While etiquette violations differ, they tend to come down to the same behavior: whether or not guests respect the strangers in close proximity to them,” John Morrey, Expedia’s vice president and general manager, said in a press release. “The same is true for flying, or for driving. A modicum of consideration for your fellow travelers can go a very long way and may ultimately enhance your overall travel experience.”

Here’s the full top ten list provided in the release.

  1. Inattentive Parents – 67%
  2. The Hallway Hellraisers – 64%
  3. The Complainers – 54%
  4. The In-Room Revelers (noisemakers nearby) – 52%
  5. The Bickerers – 26%
  6. The Poolside Partiers – 22%
  7. The Loudly Amorous (indiscreet lovemakers) – 21%
  8. The Hot Tub Canoodlers (amorous couples in a public hot tub) – 20%
  9. The Business Bar Boozer (sloshed business travelers) – 12%
  10. The Elevator Chatterbox – 6%

The study also ranked whether Americans think hotel employees should be tipped (overwhelmingly, the answer is yes, with only 27 percent claiming not to tip hotel workers) and what hidden habits travelers have — like sneaking in extra guests, which 9 percent admitted to doing.
