Study: Climate Change to Make Flights Even Bumpier

According to a new study led by Dr. Paul Williams from the University of Reading, air travel might become substantially more turbulent due to the effect of climate change on the atmosphere. The study concludes that aircraft turbulence will increase commensurately with carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere and that turbulence strong enough to unseat unbuckled passengers could become three times more common.

“For most passengers, light turbulence is nothing more than an annoying inconvenience that reduces their comfort levels, but for nervous fliers even light turbulence can be distressing,” Williams said.

“However, even the most seasoned frequent fliers may be alarmed at the prospect of a 149% increase in severe turbulence, which frequently hospitalizes air travelers and flight attendants around the world.”

Acid rain, global warming, climate change all BS.

But severe turbulence is rare. So even a 149% increase to something rare still leaves it as something rare. Perhaps being on a flight with turbulence bad enough to cause ANY injuries to those onboard will now happen twice to a given traveler during his/her lifetime of flying instead of just once.
