Southwest Employees Accused of Fighting Over Face Coverings

A Southwest Airlines pilot could face criminal charges after reportedly getting into a fight over face coverings.
Another incident involving a Southwest Airlines pilot is making headlines.

CNN reports an aviator for the Dallas-based airline was arrested in October 2021, after allegedly fighting with another Southwest employee over face coverings.

Employee On Leave as Airline Investigates Incident

The fight did not occur on a Southwest Boeing 737, but rather at a hotel. According to reports, San Jose Police were called to a Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in the city. At the property’s bar, officers arrested the pilot for alleged assault and battery upon another Southwest employee. A police spokesperson said the core of the fight was over wearing face coverings. The victim is not being identified.

Although the local district attorney has not formally filed charges against the pilot, a spokesperson told CNN that a referral for prosecution can take up to two weeks. The arrest was made on October 18, 2021 – just over two weeks has passed.

Southwest confirmed to the news organization that they were aware of the incident between the two employees and are conducting an internal investigation into the issue. The carrier said that their insight would “regard the outcome of charges filed with local authorities.” In the meantime, the airline says an employee is on leave as the investigation continues.

Incident Marks Second Time Southwest Investigated Pilot Behavior

This incident between the two employees marks the second time in less than one week that the carrier was forced to take action on a pilot’s accused behavior. On Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021, the carrier noted they were conducting an internal investigation on another pilot who reportedly used the right wing slur “Let’s go, Brandon” during an in-flight announcement. While they have not said if the employee will be fired, the carrier noted they “will address the situation directly with any employee involved while continuing to remind all employees that public expression of personal opinions while on duty is unacceptable.”

I attempted to express a fairly reasonable opinion but was denied by the censors.  I guess freedom of speech is no longer allowed.
