South Africa to Get Six Solar-Powered Airports

In addition to the three solar-powered airports introduced in South Africa in the last year [George Airport (GRJ), Kimberley Airport (KIM) and Upington Airport (UTN)], the country is on course to have a total of six eco-friendly airports by the end of 2017 as Bram Fischer International Airport BFN), East London Airport (ELS) and Port Elizabeth International Airport (PLZ) join the initiative.

“The long-term plan is to have the airports generate their own energy,” said Senzeni Ndebele, corporate affairs senior manager for Airports Company South Africa, the organization behind the push for green energy in South Africa.
