Skywest Adds 20 New Embraers to Its Fleet

A new 10-year deal with Utah-based SkyWest Airlines will bring 20 new Embraer 175s, valued at $972 million, to American Airlines’ regional fleet. Embraer said the deliveries will begin in the second half of 2020, with the first 10 expected to enter service under the American Eagle name by December, and the remaining 10 joining in the first half of 2021.

According to its fleet, SkyWest Airlines currently flies 67 Bombardier CRJ700s on behalf of American, as well as 121 Embraer 175s for United and Alaska and 35 Embraer 175 SCs as Delta Connection. The new E175s will be an addition to SkyWest’s American fleet and is expected to help balance the retirement of 20 E190s in the carrier’s mainline fleet.

The new Embraers will seat 76 passengers – 12 in first class and 64 in economy – in a 2×2 configuration. The aircraft will feature large overhead bins, inflight WiFi, streaming inflight entertainment, leather seats, and adjustable headrests.

President and Chief Executive Officer of SkyWest, Inc. Chip Childs said in a statement, “We’re pleased to continue advancing our position in the industry with this latest order of new Embraer aircraft. We appreciate the long-standing partnership with Embraer and look forward to operating this outstanding aircraft for all four of our mainline partners.”
