Service Dogs Take Tour of Belfast Airport
In a recent exercise at George Best Belfast City Airport (BHD), nine medical alert dogs boarded a plane and toured the airport as part of a training and socialization program so that they can best assist their owners. The dogs are key to keeping travelers like Debbie Trimble safe.
“Beau is a diabetic alert dog, I have difficulties recognizing when my blood sugars are going low and I live by myself so it can be quite dangerous, I could easily go into a coma,” Trimble said. These specific pets also receive outside training from a local establishment so that their in-flight behavior – like heeding crew members – is adept.
