Southwest Revives “Wanna Get Away?” Ad Campaign

Southwest Airlines is reviving their classic “Wanna Get Away” advertising campaign featuring passengers who need to get out of town after embarrassing blunders. The original ads, which began airing in 1998, ended with a voice-over that said “Wanna get away?” as the flyer stood embarrassed over an event that had forced them to leave town. The revived ads will run in six markets, and is set to make its debut on NBC’s Thursday night NFL broadcast.

“This is a continuation of a two- to three-year journey we’ve been on to update the brand,” said Bob Jordan, chief commercial officer for Southwest. “We’re celebrating our past and putting a little bit of a new look on the brand. We have updated the aircraft, in and out. We’ve updated the airports. We’ve been updating our employee uniforms. And now we’re taking a look at our advertising.”
