Rupert Hogg Named New Cathay CEO

Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. has named Swire Group alum Rupert Hogg as its new CEO, ousting Ivan Chu as the head of Asia’s largest international airline. Cathay has struggled in recent years to recoup its earnings after having to report an annual loss for the first time in eight years.

“Cathay’s deterioration in performance means Rupert will spend his CEO tenure addressing the tyranny of urgency,” said Will Horton, an analyst at CAPA Centre for Aviation. “Ivan should’ve been replaced earlier but the next generation of leaders were still honing their skills.”
