Room at Choice Hotel Property Revealed to Be Meth Lab

A north suburban Chicago hotel ended up the home for a traveler’s secret meth lab.

In Grayslake, about an hour north of Chicago and in a county quietly struggling with a severe drug problem, Martin P. Bloomberg has been alleged to have been cooking meth in a makeshift hotel room lab.

Bloomberg, 40, from Palatine, in Chicago’s northwest suburbs, was charged on Monday with multiple drug-related felonies, including “possession of meth manufacturing material, possession of meth, aggravated participation of meth production, aggravated meth manufacturing, possession of meth precursor, participation in meth manufacturing, possession of pills and possession of false ID,” the Chicago Sun-Times reported. He was staying at a Comfort Suites, a Choice Hotels brand, when officers were alerted of the possible meth lab through the local Crime Stoppers tip hotline.

Following the discovery, the hotel was evacuated and a special response team came in to clean up the lab. Bloomberg was taken to an area hospital due to suicidal statements. When released and on his way to the sheriff’s office, he again made suicidal statements while banging his head on the inside of the police car. The officers took him to a different hospital, where he was treated and released. He now awaits a bond hearing and is held in the sheriff’s office.

According to the Daily Herald, Bloomberg is said to have been running the meth lab out of the hotel for about a month and had two pit bulls guarding it. He faces up to 30 years in prison and is currently being held on $500,000 bail.
