ROAM First in Fitness at BWI

Offering daily, monthly and yearly passes plus Lululemon clothing, ROAM fitness is getting ready to open its doors behind security at BWI.

Gym bunnies and fitness freaks headed to Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) can now rejoice; for those who dread leaving their workout routine at the gate, the very first ROAM Fitness facility will soon be opening behind security at BWI.

Aimed squarely at millennials, co-founders Cynthia Sandall and Ty Manegold have created a two-tier program for frequent flyers. A one-off day pass costs $40 while a monthly membership will set travelers back $175. The truly dedicated can purchase a yearly pass at $600.

In addition to free weights, yoga props, rowing machines and Technogym cardio equipment, ROAM also features the obligatory showers and towels plus luxury Malin+Goetz toiletries. Those who forgot their gym gear needn’t fret; ROAM offers clients the chance to purchase or simply rent Lululemon clothing.

Sandall explained this move to the Observer, saying, “We created the rental program because we didn’t want travelers to worry about whether or not they had their workout gear in their carry-on. When people first think about gym clothes rentals, some have an ‘ick factor,’ but when they learn that it is Lululemon apparel, that aversion drastically decreases.”

She added, “All rental clothing is professionally washed and re-packaged between each and every use, making it feel fresh and new for the next customer, just like the linens and towels at your favorite top-tier hotel. The only items we don’t rent are underwear and socks, albeit the women’s rental outfits do come with a lululemon sports bra.”

Despite not yet being open at BWI, it seems that ROAM is already plotting its expansion, with further fitness outlets apparently in the works for Dublin, Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
